Racerunner #5

She wiped a tear that had finally erupted from the corner of her and turned away towards the kitchen when, Kevin asked,  "Um...Rachel...ma'am...are...are you alright?"

This was apparently the wrong question to ask, as Rachel's face looked as if someone had just dynamited Hoover Dam, dropped her order pad and rushed out the front door of the cafe into the parking lot.

The locals momentarily halted their conversation and turned a collective stink eye onto Kevin, who apparently must've looked quite as shocked as he actually was.

"Sorry, mister.  Don't worry about it too much," said a burly man emerging from the kitchen with a fry cook's hat on.  "Rachel's just awful upset since her little brother went missing a couple of weeks ago.  You didn't do anything wrong."  Then man then turned and glared at the corner booth crowd, "These insensitive morons on the other hand--"  "Elmer," the cook said, "How dense can you possibly be?
